Graham said: "My wife, who was brought up on the edge of the Cairngorms, introduced me to the natural beauty and richness of Scotland and also to photography. We have spent many hours out together, side by side, with our cameras.

"When this image was taken we were hoping to photograph pine martens. We sat in a hide for some twenty hours over three consecutive days, but as so often happens with wildlife we barely got a glimpse of what we were hoping for. As the rain set in we were visited by a family of three raucous jays. This adult was being pestered relentlessly by the juvenile and appeared to be thoroughly fed up; the adult chased the youngster away several times but capitulated and fed it once or twice before they all flew off. The overcast conditions and the falling rain add richness and atmosphere to this woodland scene.

"I dedicate this to my wife Mary; she has the virtually identical photo, and in truth this could just as easily have been her image as mine."
