Mountains - A Landscape Photographers View
by
Joe Cornish
Published by Aurum
Joe received a bottle of 12 year old The Glenlivet.
"I
am amazed, gratified and delighted to find Scotland's Mountains came out on top
from such a wonderful collection of books in the Scottish Nature Photography Book
of the Year Award. Contrary to the view that every prominent photographer is a
multi award winner, I have received no plaudit of this kind before, and it really
means a lot to me, especially as it is the result of a popular vote, rather than
a judging panel. That Scotland's Coast came second was almost overwhelming. I
am grateful to everyone who voted, whether for me or not, because the participation
of all in a competition of this kind adds weight to the cause of books, and is
a reminder in this electronic media-driven world that the pleasures and consolations
of the book remain unmatched. For artists who wish to make a statement that will
be subjected to the test of time, books remain the principle format, and it is
wonderful to think that books remain cherished and handed down generation to generation.
In an over-hasty world books reflect the longer rhythms of nature and the deeper
traditions of our civilisation.
"I
am grateful to the organisers, and also to Beyond Words and to the Glenlivet for
supporting it. I am especially pleased to have a bottle of the Glenlivet, as my
taste for single malts has inevitably been matured by spending so long in the
Highlands in recent years!" - Joe Cornish
