Brian said: "I was absolutely thrilled and honoured to learn that I had won the Abstract category in this year’s Scottish Nature Photography Awards.
I vividly remember the bitterly cold spell in January 2024, when sub-zero temperatures gripped the area. I had a plan to visit Gladhouse Reservoir, near to my home, to look for patterns/textures in the frozen water. Upon arrival, I was met with an expanse of thick ice. Curiosity led me to carefully venture a few metres onto the frozen surface to see what I could create. That is when I discovered these incredible, bright white frozen circles. I was captivated by how they gave the ice such a strikingly abstract appearance—something fleeting, destined to disappear as soon as the weather changed.
"I particularly love how we as photographers can create an abstract interpretation of what nature shares with us. Little did I know at the time that those fascinating patterns would lead to this incredible recognition."
